In 1999, I helped start Lesbian Health Initiatives (LeHI), to educate the lesbian community in Delaware about breast cancer, safer sex and domestic violence issues. I volunteered with the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition to help start up of the Taking Care of Ourselves lesbian health program and joined the staff in 2002. In 2004, I was certified as a trainer for the Mautner Project Removing the Barriers: Culturally Competent Health for Lesbians and Women who Partner with Women and conducted trainings for health care professionals across the state. I’ve since adapted that training for a variety of audiences. I am co-chair of the United Way of Delaware PRIDE Committee LGBT Health Equity Task Force and serve on the Delaware Cancer Consortium Health Equity & Inclusion Committee.
I develop and implement health education programs on breast health and breast cancer, provide training to staff and volunteers on presenting health information, and develop evaluations to measure the effectiveness of outreach and education. I also help plan and carry out an annual breast cancer conference; involved in researching and picking topics, selecting speakers and developing promotional materials.
